I can't be happy enough when I learned about the kid's DVD's and books that I borrow for Cassy and even the many interesting books I found for myself in the Euless library.

A lot of kid's videos and dvd's are available to loan for at least 7 days and you can renew them, should you decide to keep them for a little while. Cassy loves a lot of musical songs these days and she's been learning and even singing along. She loves Barney, Cookie Monster, Dacky, Elmo, Elmer, and many more....

These videos really stimulate learning and keeps kids busy while giving their parents a little time for themselves. They can be spendy too, if you buy them at the store (which I find it very practical borrowing them at the library) .

You know, the kid's attention span is not very long and before you know it, they will be interested in other stuff. The library worked out well for us-something to think about!!!;-)

Family Time!!

Last weekend, our family from Kentucky made a short visit to see us. My sister- in law Katharine and her family ( together with her husband Erick, and daughters Noel & Chloe) came to see us briefly on their way to visit Erick's mom in Killeen.

We caught up with them on Saturday morning (and Kevin had to be at work);I invited them over for lunch. I had some Filipino foods that I shared with them. I was glad to know that they liked the food and we all had a great time.

Cassy can't be too happy seeing her cousins and having playmates around. It was just fun seeing the cousins re-acquainted. Noel just turned 3 in May 23 while Chloe turned a year in May 29. It was August last year when I last saw them. I really had a great time catching up with them.

We initially planned to head to the pool but on that "fateful day", it had some maintenance issues. While it was hot outside, we enjoyed ourselves playing Wii Sports and doing Wii Fit (it really is fun when you do it together with family like a family tournament or something..)Erick was playing his way to get a pro status in boxing and he really had a great work out on that day!!:-)

Around 6pm, we headed to our cousin's Nancy and Micah's place to spend some time with the gang. The girls finally had their chance to submerge in the refreshing water through the inflated pool at their backyard. Aunt Susan treated us for pizza and ice cream for dinner.

On Sunday, Kevin finally had his day off and got to spend sometime with his sister Katharine and Kat's family. We had Mexican food for lunch and headed to the recreational pool in Chisholm Park in Hurst.

The girls had a great time feeding the ducks in that neat park there and then later on, we headed to the water park (which was really awesome by the way!) Got to spend some hours there and cooled off before Kat and the gang started driving to Killeen.

I am definitely glad to spend some time with them. It probably wasn't ample time but I was glad that it worked out well knowing Kevin's crazy schedule. We'll see them again in Branson, Missouri in August before long-for another and bigger family get together! I can't wait and definitely anticipating to see everyone there!!

Unbearable Heat Wave

The Summer just started yet the unbearable heat wave has quickly reached it's peak so far!! It's definitely an irony in Texas because most people hibernate in the Summer and get out during winter ( it's not your typical winter season out here-pretty mild!!!)

Anyway, been hanging out in the pool to cool off with my cutie daughter Cass! We have checked out different water parks which we love doing the most lately! I think my skin tone has darkened a lot but hey I enjoy too much!!

Mommy and Daddy's Little Swimmer

Cassy's in the pool a lot these days as it's the fondest activity she is much indulged to. We have been taking her there and she sure loves it each time! What amazes me the most is that she's not scared to go into the water at all.

We got her float and all those tubes that will help her to go around the water but more often than not, she refuses to wear them and instead walk into the pool by herself. She gets under the water really well. Therefore, I just have to make sure I am staying close with her.

She's getting swimming lessons with her dad at least 3 times a week which is a good thing, gets her used into the water and also gives way to daddy-daughter time. It makes her really hungry for a big meal after wards (which I like the most-no more dinner battle and a restful night!!)

Her dad said it's the best time to teach her while she's still young. And honestly, I am convinced that she has to learn and it's been giving her positive results!!! She's enjoying while learning to swim like a fish.;-)

It's Aunt Sue's Birthday!

We just got home after bowling in Main Event in Grapevine. It's Aunt Susan's birthday and they thought for a change, we would have rather a more active celebration by changing the venue. So, everybody came at 6:30 and had a big dinner and started the 3-hour bowling session.

It was definitely fun! I gotta do more practice to get better at the real bowling since I only seem to do well only in Wii Bowling.heheh. It wasn't for a competitive game but it was rather a family activity which we all had fun!!

Hubby's Home

It felt like forever to have Kevin home! I mean, I see him every morning before he takes off work and every night when he gets home from work, but that's just pretty much it. I mean, we used to spend so much time together during weekends and he's other days off. But now he barely gets 2 straight days off even on weekends because of his tasks at work.

Once Summer kicks in, we are anticipating for 3-day off for him, (that means he has to work 4/10's) in order to compensate time. He's definitely working hard these days as expectations are high at work. He just really have to deal with it and hopefully it gets better in the Fall/Winter time. Thankfully, he has a great team that he counts on well for teamwork!

Today, it's Monday and he has a one day off. And he takes off again tomorrow. It's getting old to me after awhile, especially that I am used to spending time with him. He misses a lot from Cassy,too.

Buy hey, somebody has to pay the bills and in that case-it's on him!!My poor (dada) hubby!!

Perfect Day To Be Outside

It's been awhile since I had the guts to go outside because of the Swine Flu scare. It's hard not to panic or at least be worried because of the fact that it can be fatal. Anyway, today I finally got out of the house and decided to take my little Cass to the park. It's nice and sunny today, felt like 77F outside and it doesn't get better than that.

I thought I'd enjoy and just explore the park once again. True enough, Cassy had a great time. She headed to the slides, swings and was a busy bee picking up the pebbles and making a mini-castle. She's definitely getting to be wiser each day. I am just so proud of my little girl. Thankfully, she's been healthy and strong-my constant prayers to God and for my whole family!

Way To Go Girlfriends!

Remembering my days back in college, I had a group of friends ( namely Ann, Crislyn, Maritess, Peachy,Vina and Rene) that I used to hang out a lot. They were my classmates, closest friends and doormates back in the University of the Philippines-Diliman days.

We all took our pre-law degree together as I was planning to get a law degree then. Being a social activitist/talker/empathatic for victims of injustice and so on ( I had all my motivation back then). Along the way, after completing my degree, I had a change of plan and threaded a different career path.

While these girls pursued their dreams. Yet, we used to make a point to have some girlfriends date together at least once or twice a week. Since I got here in the States, we are still consistently communicating. I must give Maritess and Peachy a lot of credits since they give me first hand updates about the girls. While we also send SMS or talk on Skype.

Shortly after I arrived in the States in the year 2006. Crislyn and I hooked up and met in Portland, Oregon. She was sent out to represent their company in the Philippines. She went back home and continued law school while she's working.

Years gone by and before we knew it. All of my five girlfriends are now licensed lawyers. They all passed the licensing exam and took their formal oath on April 28. I am just so proud of what they have come to achieve. They're still the same girls I used to hanged out with, very spontaneous , never tedious and could be crazy at times. Way to go girls!! What can I say; no guts, no glory!!! Congratulations!!

Can't wait to be reunited and spend time with you guys! I know they're too anxious to see us especially meeting Cassy for the first time since they're all Cass' godmothers!

She's Growing Well!

Yesterday, Cassy had her 18 months well child exam! Gosh, can't believe she's a year and a half old already! She's becoming to be a little person more than being a baby ( i know she's not a baby anymore!) No matter what, she will always be mom and dad's apple of the eye!! I am just amazed how much she has absorbed learning a lot of different things!!

Anyway, her check up went really well! She's 100 percentile on her height, and she's 65 percentile on her weight ( she's getting to be a picky eater, that's why!) Her head circumference is on the right measurement where it is supposed to be for her age! To sum it all, she's growing well according to her pediatrician.

She also had her last shot of Hepa-B, which to our surprise, never heard a peep when the nurse gave it! But it must hurt her because she was cranky the whole day and felt a little warm!

And today, she's back to herself. Running around, messing around and just keeping mommy busy!!

Friends Get Together

Yesterday after Cassy had her pediatrician appointment, we headed to Jo's house. I spent most of the day there along with Ate Nita (whose babysitting Amber at the moment). As we anticipated we had too much food to eat and never ending "chika-chikka."

We enjoyed some salted fish, fish escabeche, beef soup, beef steak, buko pandan and sweet rice. It's always like this whenever two or more Filipinas gather; it's safe to imply that we're big eaters (BIG GRIND!:-)) Really though, nothing is more satisfying when you eat "the familiar foods or the so called "cultural foods."

Later on, we watched "Wowowee", (noontime's favorite filipino show) and then, we watched a movie by John Lloyd and Sarah Geronimo. We were just happy to see each other and be able to spend time. Always gives me a good reason to get out of the house and do some fun with good friends. Next week, will be Jo's turn to visit, so what can I say, I am anticipating for it.

It's probably been a week since I have last taken Cassy to the park because of my worries that she might catch this infamous bug which is the Swine flu. As a precaution, I always make sure to keep our home as tidy as possible and of course, washing hands each time really helps to kill this virus that's in the air right now.

It's scary since there is no vaccine made available yet, which will aim to provide immunity to people from getting sick. According to the facts, kids who are under 5 years old, the seniors, and people with chronic are the ones who are susceptible to getting this bug.

I know that I share these sentiments along with other parents. And I am keeping my fingers crossed that my family will be safe from catching anything.

Party At Glass Cactus, Gaylord Texan!

Well I guess, it's time to do some updates here. I've been neglecting this blog for awhile now. I have been busy with too many things these days that could hardly find time to sit down and get this blog some updates.

The pictures were taken at Glass Cactus, Gaylord Texan in Grapevine last Saturday. It was one of my good friend's 28th birthday-May Ann Owens. Instead of a get together at home, she decided to do something different this time and asked if we could go clubbing. Since she gave us enough time, we accommodated her invitation and we were able to arrange with our babysitter!!!:-)

We sure had a blast together with wonderful Pinay friends!!

I have been wanting to visit Florida. For one reason, my brother-in-law (my sister's husband) is there working to support his family back home. I meant to visit him long time ago and I just couldn't find the right timing to do so.

Mangos From Guam

I thought I'd mentioned that today we got a surprise package from one of our friends in Portland, Oregon. Jared and Carm sent us a pickled mango from Guam! I had been craving for these mangos (very crispy, crunchy and tasted like P.I. young mangos)-the longest time! I remember how much I drooled for this stuff when I was pregnant.

Jared's mom visited over and brought this goodies with her! She prepared the pickled mangos herself with the real vinegar (fermented from the coconut) and good stuff in there! They thought of us and sent us a container! I couldn't stop eating; I swear, I could finish them in one sitting if I would!! I decided to share some to Jo and have Annie try, too (whose on her way to giving birth anytime soon)!!whew!!!

Anyway, I am overjoyed with such great friends that we have, despite the distance, the strong bond of friendship is still there. We can't wait for their visit soon!!
