My Dearest Cassy

Pictures of my daughter Cassy with cousin Addy. Actually, Addy will turn a year on the 29th of this month,too! Anyway, Cassy will be a year on Friday, the Halloween baby!! I can't still imagine she's getting to be a toddler when she was just so tiny and helpless when she was a newborn! I just love my girl too much!! She will always be my baby no matter what!!!

Another weekend passed

Time really flies by so quick. Another weekend just ended! Anyway, I hope you all had a great time with your family and friends! It's been really a great weekend for us since my family had a great time doing some outdoor stuff like walking in the park and checking out some trails. My hubby really likes to get out of the house when he's not at work. He likes to drive and enjoy some outdoor activities. So, most likely it's hard for me to spend time on the computer when he's here. But no regrets, I am very glad to be able to spend quality time with my family.
It's getting to be nicer outside! I definitely agree that it was worth it for the hot, humid Summer that Texas had!:-)

My Usual Day

Since I am stay home mom, I am tasked for the child care duties. I have an almost 9 months baby girl named Cassandra Abrielle.
I would usually put her down at 7 o'clock in the evening making sure she gets enough sleep and also giving me leiway to spend some quality time with my hubby and 2 other great kids rather dogs named Spooky and Mojo.
In the morning, I wake up around 8 o'clock in the morning, getting little Cassy in her bed and greeting me a good morning with her big cheerful smile and calling ma-ma. Well what can I say, she is my sunshine and she does always makes my morning right. Then, after some lovey moments with her. I start to feed her. And then, give her morning bath after a messy breakfast:-) Then, I let our two dogs out for a short walk to go potty with Cassy on a carrier with me. Back home, I'd usually lay little precious on her mat for her tummy time or playing time:-) That's about the time, I can have a little bite for breakfast. I may have cereal or oatmeal. Something quick for a mom on the go like me. Yeah, it's not that easy as you may thought. Maybe I'll do some more errands while Cassy is still happy on her mat like laundry and little bit of straightening in our house (believe me I was not born with organization skills, sucks doesn't it?)
It would be time then for Cassy's short nap maybe. So then I can check some emails for me and YM where I get to connect with friends and family. Then, I get to turn on the TV and watch my favorite filipino shows.If my parents or family back home are still up, we would chat and catch up. Then when Cassy gets up, she gets her lunch and then, she gets to play for awhile before her 2nd nap in the afternoon. I would read her stories, and do more interaction with her. Then, I take the dogs out for their short walk, maybe do pee or poop outside. Then, Cassy gets her nap and when she wakes up she gets some snack with her favorite carrot juice and mozarella cheese sticks. Before 7pm, her usual bedtime routine starts. She gets her dinner, mommy and daddy read her bedtime stories, she takes her bottle and put her down for the night.
I'd say that my daughter keeps me really on the go plus our two cutie dogs spook and mojie:-) It's fun and as they say you learn as you go...
Then, it's time to have my dinner with my hubby and spend some quality time together:-)

Dishwasher-My Big Helper!

These days, I have learned to use the dishwasher. I used to watch the dishes with my hands and I didn't realize I used up more water that way. So finally, when my hubby's folks visited us here. My father in-law encouraged me to use it. Actually I found out that it's consuming less water every time I use it!

SF trip

Here's one of the photos taken in San Franciso, California last Aug. 2007. We drove from the Oregon Coast to SF. What so funny was, we didn't intend to go that far since I was 7 months pregnant back then. We initially just wanted to go to Southeast Oregon and spend a night or two in Ashland ( another impressive, stunning city). But since my hubby and I are quite adventurous, we drove down to SF. It was like 850 miles, quite a drive but it was worth it. We then stopped in Daly City, next to SF, and had some Filipino foods. You'll be surprised how many kababayans are there!:-)
Although I was a little disappointed because it was one of the gray days in the bay area. They said that it has some weird weather like Oregon coast.heheh. So please bear with the SF bridge photo as it was very foggy.:-)

What A Great Breakfast

Every time I watch the Philippine news, I can't help not to get frustrated watching more people getting hungrier and poorer in the Philippines. I feel for them. I feel for those people who have less options in life because they are just poor. Here in the States, there is a way to make life better by pursuing jobs and working hard. I mean to some degree, it could be similar as there are still big gaps between the rich and middle class. But nothing compared to the poverty in the Philippines. No shelter, clothing, food and other basic necessities. My advocacy gets awaken and I can't help not to be agitated.
There is a big mistake in the system itself. Corruption is massive! Employment is only for those who finish their degrees from well-known universities or otherwise the rotten principle of "whom you know" and not by "what you know". Very disgusting huh!! For as long as the rotten system will continue to exist in the Philippines; this poverty will just be a cycle and will never get better!

Making Home Made Baby foods

My daughter's appetite has gone up increasingly. She's consuming 3 jars each meal. So, in order to save some money I have been doing home made baby foods and to my surprise, she likes it a lot better. I gave mashed potatoes, carrots, beans, sweet peas, squash, baked macaroni and cheese, mangoes and other fruits & vegetables that she likes which I just put in a blender and offer it to her. She's taken more food and she has been doing well as far as eating table foods. My only worry is that she might be getting too much salt, sugar and other stuff that's not necessary for her to have. So, I always wanna make it a point that she is getting nothing but the fresh, nutritious foods.

Pumpkin Patch Visit with Pinay Friends!

I have to say that I got finally motivated to pursue this blogging because of my friends who encourage me to do so. Eating at home vs. eating out

These days, I have been preparing home made food instead of dining out and spending more money. Actually, my husband and I and so our daughter like it better. We get more nutrients and consume just right amount of calories and good fats. And of course, we don't get to spend much.

My friend came over!

In my hubby's absence, I still did have a great day since a friend of mine Annie visited me over our apartment. Sure, we had a long marathon conversation as usual! Actually, it was a spontaneous plan as she had her first sonogram today. By the way, she's 9 weeks pregnant now. Going back, we talked about it last night but it wasn't confirmed until she called me today and told me she was going to come over.
We had lunch together! All just full of fun and endless conversation! We also had a chance to go to the park and took the dogs with us and pushed Cassy on her stroller. It was just the right temperature to get out and do some walking. After a mile walk, we decided to head back home and had dinner together. We also watched the filipino channels and got some updates about the Philippines. The time flew so quickly, that before we knew it, Annie's husband Tony called and told us he's heading to our way to pick Annie up. The good thing is we don't live very far. We're just 10 minutes away. Tony also mentioned, our route is actually sort of on the way to his work. So, hopefully, Annie can come by more often.

Hubby's not home!

It's my second night to be sleeping alone since hubby left for Illinois to attend to his grandma's burial which took place today! We were set to go until I made a last minute call and decided to just stay instead! Things will be easier if we're home! Besides, it will only be a short trip and hubby's attendance is much more important! Anyway, hubby flew in yesterday and he'll fly out tomorrow! Honestly, I can't wait for tomorrow! It's quite different not having hubby around! Although, I had been alone back in Oregon for his work related reasons! Still, it's something that I don't look forward to! Definitely, not wanting him to leave and not see him for a few days!
Anyhow, I managed the first night fine! I think, I will just do alright tonight (keeping my fingers crossed)! Sure, I am missing hubby! He's going to get lots of hugs and kisses from me, Cassy and of course, a lot from Spook and Mojo!

Sashimi or "Kinilaw" in Filipino version!

This was a Guamanian version of sashimi.The recipe was provided by our dear friends in Portland,OR! The sashimi pieces are dipped into a dish of soy sauce and vinegard before being eaten. I used the sashimi grade tuna which I dipped into the soy sauce, vinegar, and added a paste of wasabi to make it extra spicy! It turned out to have a fresh, minty taste which was really good! Depending on the kind of sashimi, wasabi or ground ginger may accompany the dish and be added to the sashimi as a condiment.

I did embed this video because personally I love pets especially the dogs; as we have two adorable, great personality dogs Spook and Mojo. It just moved me watching the video; the dogs really have their loyalty to their master even after not seeing him for 14 months. Sure, they are great companions and they will never turn their back against you. I remember watching the news when the dog owner died but until the very end the dog was there to watch him. Counting down the days before my sweet daughter turns a year

I can completely attest how time has gone so quick. It was only October 31st in the year of 2007 when I gave birth to my beloved daughter Cassandra. Anyhow, my husband's planning to drive up to Iowa,(in the Midwest) where my husband's folks are. I am pretty sure grandma and grandpa would love to see her and be with her on first birthday bash. Nothing extravagant planned but definitely, she will have her first cake and candles to blow:-)Pretty exciting!!

Decision to stay home vs. going back to work

I am a staying home mom of 11 months old baby girl-our little Cassy. I would say that it's a privilege for me to be able to stay home and take care of my daughter. The reality is life is getting tougher and bills are coming endless. However, it's a decision for my husband and I that I stay home in order to ensure that our daughter is getting enough attention, love and care that she deserves.

I must say that within the two years since I got here in the States; Pinoy Tv Shows via Direct TV has been keeping me company. Hubby knows Pinoy Stars

I thought, it's quite hilarious to know that my husband is getting to be an avid fan of Pinoy TV now. From the start, he has no idea of Tagalog nor Pinoy Stars. Now, he's aware that Regine Velasquez and Ogie Alcasid are a couple. He knows Boy Abunda, Kris Aquino, Jessica Soho and more. He learns it bit by bit by watching Pinoy TV and TFC everyday. In a way, am flattered that my husband is making an effort to learn and be a part of my cultural background. Anyhow, hubby is very articulate and he's smart to get to know a lot of things. Am so proud of hubby, that's for certain. Not only that, he's really a great husband and loving daddy to our Cassy:-)

Getting situated in Texas

It had been 3 months since we moved here in Texas from State of Oregon. I'd say I missed the landscape of Oregon as it's just so gorgeous and stunning! But since we didn't have anybody out there, we decided to move here, as my husband has some relatives and folks around here.
The adjusting part is not too tough for me. Maybe with hubby it was harder; since he grew up in State of Iowa and lived significant years in Minnesota, one of the colder states in U.S. Although there were really days that I felt hot because living in Oregon for almost 2 years had gotten my skin adjusted. But no big deal, since I was used to the heat back in P.I. island. But never really thought it could get quite humid here as P.I. is more of dry heat; it doesn't get too hot because it's surrounded with bodies of water.
Anyway, I'd been adjusting good here in Texas. People are friendlier and very nice. Lots of Asian supermarkets out here,too so, I'd get to buy Asian spices and stuff. We attend filipino american gatherings,too that gives us a chance to meet other fil-am couples.How cool!!:-)
